In Osaka, we call it “Sumiyo-san” for the sake of familiarity, and the number of first-time worshipers on the third day of the New Year exceeds 2 million every year.
It is the main shrine of about 2,300 Sumiyoshi shrines nationwide, the largest shrine in Settsu, and the old shrine is a large shrine.
Since ancient times, it has been worshiped as the “God of Navigational Safety,” “God of Harae,” “God of Agriculture,” “God of Waka,” “God of War,” and “God of Sumo,” and its founding dates back 1800 years.
In order from the 1st main shrine to the 4th main shrine, the deities are “bottom tube man’s life / there’s a god”, “middle tube man’s life / nakatsu no omikoto”, and “front tube man’s life / wow tsutsu no omikoto”. , And “Empress Jingu / Jingu Kogo”.
The main shrine is divided into four parts, with the first to third main shrines vertically, and the fourth main shrine next to the third main shrine, as if it were a fleet going through the ocean.
It is also said that “the three companies are prepared for fish scales, and one company has a crane wing stance, so he represents the law of eight teams.”
The pillars, rafters, and gable boards are painted with tan, the siding walls are painted with white husk powder, the roof is made of cypress bark, and the gable is a powerful straight line. Is the oldest special style in the history of shrine architecture and is designated as a national treasure.
With more than 30 Setsumatsusha / Setsumatsusha / Shrines, there are many festivals such as Sumiyoshi Matsuri, and there are buildings and cultural properties that are carefully preserved as national treasures and important cultural properties in the precincts.
