天王寺動物園(Ten’nōji dōbutsuen:Tennoji Zoo)

Theme park

A zoo with a history of over 100 years

Tennoji Zoo was opened in 1915 (Taisho 4) and is the third longest zoo in Japan for over 100 years.

There are popular polar bears such as lions and chimpanzees in the park of about 11ha.

About 1000 animals of 180 species are bred, such as Kiwi, the national bird of New Zealand that can only be seen at Tennoji Zoo, and a drill with a black face.

You can also come into direct contact with the cute guinea pig.

At the park, we are promoting the implementation of “ecological exhibitions” that reproduce the environment of the animal habitat as much as possible and introduce the state of the animals living there.

The Hippopotamus House, which has Japan’s first underwater fluoroscopic exhibition pool, and the African Savannah Zone and Sai House, which reproduce the African savannah, are gaining popularity.

You can also choose and buy meals and souvenirs at the shop in the park.

The nearest station is Dobutsuen-mae Station, but you can walk from Tennoji Station in about 10 minutes, so you can enjoy shopping at Abeno Harukas and Abeno Cues Mall, and then stop by at Tennoji Zoo.
