近つ飛鳥博物館(Asuka Museum near)

Tourist attractions

A museum about ancient burial mounds with the main theme of “searching for the formation process of the ancient Japanese nation and international exchange.”

It is designed so that you can overlook the entire “Chikatsu Asuka Fudoki no Oka”, and the interior is displayed as if the excavated items were housed in an old burial mound (designed by Tadao Ando).

The exhibits are divided into three zones: Upcoming Asuka and International Exchange / The Origin of the Ancient State / Contemporary Science and Cultural Heritage.

In the “Nearby Asuka and International Exchange Zone”, there are swords, swords, metal fittings, earrings, rings, etc. excavated from the Ichisuka Kofun period from the Kofun period to the Asuka period / 4th to 7th centuries.

In the “Ancient National Headwaters Zone”, the hard-hole type stone chamber and the side-hole type stone chamber are reproduced in full size, explaining how to make an ancient burial mound and the inside.

There is also a model of the “Daisenryo Kofun” that was reproduced at the time of construction.

In the final “Modern Science and Cultural Heritage Zone”, you can discover cultural heritage such as underwater ruins survey, ground penetrating radar exploration, and X-ray photography, including Shura and Teko sticks excavated from the Mitsuzuka burial mounds of the Furuichi burial mounds in 1978. Describes the various technologies used.

The highlight is “Shura”, an important cultural property in the exhibition room.

It is a sled that carries large stones and wood on it, and it is a valuable item that makes you feel the historical romance of how the tumulus was made.

In addition, the museum regularly conducts tours of the surrounding cultural properties, which are guided and explained by curators, and is also developing activities to deepen the unity between the outdoor cultural heritage and the museum. Lectures, speeches and various events are also held.
