Tour / Experience

Ceramic art experience “Kenzo Shigaraki Ceramic Art Club”

Make a work with 1 kg of clay.

① Course

Electric potter’s wheel course

Place the soil in the middle of the electric wheel, moisten your hands with water, and use the water to slide on the soil to form with morality.

This is a good way to make a piece of rotating body.

The result is a smooth look.

Hand-bending course

It is a method of molding using the potter’s wheel.

This method is suitable for making a rotating body work, but compared to the beautiful finish with morality, the expression of the vessel has a “handmade taste”.

Tatara Course

“Tatara” is a plate-shaped clay, and it is a method of molding the “Tatara” into various shapes.

You can make pottery in a shape that cannot be molded by the potter’s wheel, such as a square shape or a deformed shape.

Since the shape is made only by hand, it creates the texture of manual work and gives the individuality of the person who made it.

Small 3 points: hot water, small plate, small bowl, etc.

Medium 2 points: Medium plate, sake bottle, etc.

Large 1-2 points: platters, jars, etc.

* It takes about one month to complete firing.

Food

Kaiseki / Creative Cuisine “Waraku Dining Shinobi”

A shop that requires a reservation.

There were chairs and some private rooms on a low table that was Japanese style and calm.

The budget starts from 1,000 yen.

It’s a shop with a similar taste, and if you eat it in the city, it will cost more than 1,500 yen, right? (I think it’s cheap land)

It is a dish that you can see that it is carefully prepared.

Cafe “Shigaraki Ceramics Village”

The real “climbing kiln” has been converted into a cafe.

The Nobori kiln in the pottery village was built in 1934 and has a total length of about 22m and 11 rooms in total.

The walls of the climbing kiln are exposed to fire directly by firing many times, so they are reddish-brown (fire-colored, scarlet-colored, or flame-colored) or dark-brown.

While drinking tea at the “Kiln Cafe” in the kiln, please take a closer look at the fantastic colors of the kiln that the soil is fired by the fire of firewood.

At the climbing kiln cafe, you can enjoy Shigaraki Ceramics Village’s original sweets “black charcoal roll cake”.

The collaboration between the slightly bitter dough of black charcoal and the sweetness of cream using fragrant Asamiya tea is the best.

In addition, there is also “Yamada Ranch Characteristic Baumkuchen”, which is made by kneading plenty of fresh milk from Yamada Ranch into the dough and baking it softly.

Take a break in the climbing kiln! It gives peace and healing to our customers’ hearts.

Impressions

This time, it was a trip to experience the traditional crafts “Shigaraki ware” and “Ninja” with a tradition of about 700 years.

Shigaraki ware is one of the six ancient kilns in Japan, supported by a long history and culture, and passed down to the present day by traditional techniques.

A ninja who is said to have served daimyo and lords in Japan from the Muromachi period to the Edo period, and also independently engaged in intelligence activities, sabotage, infiltration tactics, tactics, and assassination.

I think we can offer a fun and fulfilling trip by watching, listening and experiencing both!
