Japan’s longest shopping street
The total length of 2.6km is said to be the longest in Japan, and it takes about 40 minutes to walk.
A pick-up doll is displayed at the top of the entrance, and when you step into the arcade, you will find a traditional popular cafeteria, a side dish shop, a swordsmith’s knife shop, a teahouse founded in the first year of the Meiji era, tofu, croquettes, pottery and kimono … … and about 800 stores are in a row.
In the Edo period, it prospered as a gate town of “Osaka Tenmangu”, which enshrines Sugawara no Michizane, the god of learning in 2-chome.
At the “Museum of Housing and Living, Osaka Museum of Housing and Living” in 6-chome, the appearance of this town in the Meiji, Taisho, and Showa eras has been reproduced since the Edo period.
Every year on July 24th and 25th, at the “Tenjin Matsuri”, local portable shrines parade around here, and the street stalls and spectacles are full of energy.
The recommended way to enjoy it is to eat while walking.
Take a walk through the vibrant shopping streets with hot croquettes, crispy taiyaki, and mixed juices made with fresh fruits.
I introduced it briefly, but when you actually come to the site, you can experience the history and tradition more concretely with the locals.
