Mozuhachimangu Shrine is a world cultural heritage shrine with an old history and tradition, with Emperor Ojin as the main god and Emperor Nintoku and three other gods enshrined in the precincts.
It is said that it was built here in the middle of the 6th century under the commission of Hachiman God in the reign of Emperor Kinmei to pray for national peace.
The precincts are about 30,000 square meters, and there are many designated preserved trees. Among them, the giant camphor tree in front of the main shrine has a trunk circumference of 5.2 m, a tree height of 25 m, and is designated as a natural monument of the prefecture at about 800 years old. To do.
In addition, the Tsukimi Festival, which is held on Saturdays and Sundays near the mid-autumn moon (August 15th of the lunar calendar), is a festival that combines a prayer for a good harvest and the custom of celebrating the full moon.
The futon daiko devoted from the 9 towns of Ujiko has a vermilion futon shining in the green of a giant tree during the day and is lit up at night. It is loved by many citizens.
