金閣寺(Kinkakuji Temple)

Cultural heritage

The world of paradise pure soil drawn by Yoshimitsu Ashikaga

The official name is Kinkaku-ji, and it is one of the tower temples of Shokoku-ji.

Shari-den “Kinkaku” is especially famous, so it is generally called Kinkaku-ji.

It is said that Yoshimitsu Ashikaga, the third shogun of the Muromachi Shogunate, took over the villa of Saionji Kintsune, the lord of the Kamakura period, and built the mountain villa Kitayamaden.

It is said that the gardens and architecture centered on the Kinkakuji represented the world of Sukhavati Jodo. , The culture of this era is especially called Kitayama culture.

After Yoshimitsu’s death, it became a temple according to his will, and the temple was opened by Muso Soseki.

In December 1994, it was registered as one of the constituent assets of the UNESCO World Heritage (Cultural Heritage) “Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto”.

Kinkakuji is not registered as a national treasure, but Kinkakuji itself is recognized as one of the cultural assets of Kyoto.

The main gate that you pass when you enter Kinkakuji Temple.

It’s a place that you usually pass by casually, but please stop for a moment.

Five white lines are drawn on the clay wall of this mountain gate.

In fact, these five lines represent the state of the temple.

The fact that there are five lines on the wall of the temple means that the temple is the most prestigious temple in the temple.

This is exactly what Kinkakuji is all about.

Knowing that this staff is a proof of the highest temple will make you feel even more calm when you enter Kinkakuji.

This fence line is attached to every temple, so it’s a good idea to count the lines when you see the temple.
