It sits in an area called Tenma near Osaka Station, and is known as “Tenma no Tenjin-san”.
It was founded in the 3rd year of the Tenryaku era (949).
According to the company’s biography, Sugawara no Michizane, who served as the Minister of the Right in the first year of Engi (901), lost the power struggle of the imperial court and stopped by the current general in the precincts of Tenmangu on the way to Dazaifu. ..
After the death of Michizane, in the 3rd year of the Tenryaku era (949), Emperor Murakami heard that seven pine trees grew overnight in front of this general shrine, and the treetops were shining every night. It is said that it started with enshrining the public.
After that, as a god of learning and performing arts as a god of protection of the Tenma area, it became the heart of the local people and Osaka merchants, and continues to the present day.
Every year on July 24th and 25th, the “Tenjin Matsuri”, which has been held for more than 1000 years, is held. 3000 people wearing ancient costumes parade through the city, and more than 100 ships fleet in the dusk. It is lively, with about 5,000 fireworks being launched on the surface of the river.
Since Tenjinbashisuji Shopping Street is also nearby, we recommend a plan to visit Osaka Tenmangu Shrine and then go out to eat.
I introduced it briefly, but when you actually come to the site, you can experience the history and tradition more concretely with the locals.
