櫻井神社(Sakurai Shrine)

Cultural heritage

It is a ceremonial shrine that is categorized as “Sakurai Shrine (Otori-gun, Izumi Province)” in the “Engishiki Jinmeicho”.

The founding is unknown, but it is said that the family of Ason Sakurai, who lived in this region, worshiped Takenouchi no Sukune (Takenouchi no Sukune), his ancestor.

In the 5th year of Empress Suiko (597), Hachimangu Shrine was enshrined and the current deity was enshrined. Except for the main shrine, the entire shrine has disappeared.

The hall of worship is in the form of a worship hall with a passage through the dirt floor called “Medou” in the center, which well represents the characteristics of architecture in the early Kamakura period (national treasure).

Every year on Sunday, which is close to October 5, a Shinto ritual dance called “Niwadani no Kodori” is dedicated to the autumn festival.

This is also designated as a national intangible cultural property.

From the name Sakurai Shrine, it is also a shrine visited by top Arashi fans of the Japanese idol group and fans of Mr. Children, a leading Japanese artist, to pray for a ticket.
